श्लोक १
ॐ विश्वेश्वरीं जगद्धात्रीं स्थितिसंहारकारिणीम् ।
निद्रां भगवतीं विष्णोरतुलां तेजसः प्रभुः ॥१॥
oṃ viśveśvarīṃ jagaddhātrīṃ sthitisaṃhārakāriṇīm |
nidrāṃ bhagavatīṃ viṣṇoratulāṃ tejasaḥ prabhuḥ ||1||
English MeaningThe Lord Brahmā praised the blessed Goddess of Sleep—the sovereign of the universe, supporter of the worlds, cause of preservation and dissolution, and the incomparable power of Viṣṇu.
हिन्दी भावार्थविश्व की अधीश्वरी, जगत् को धारण करने वाली, संसार का पालन और संहार करने वाली तथा तेजस्वरूप भगवान् विष्णु की अनुपम शक्ति भगवती निद्रादेवी की भगवान् ब्रह्मा स्तुति करने लगे।
श्लोक २
ब्रह्मोवाच
त्वं स्वाहा त्वं स्वधा त्वं हि वषट्कारः स्वरात्मिका ।
सुधा त्वमक्षरे नित्ये त्रिधा मात्रात्मिका स्थिता ॥२॥
brahmovāca
tvaṃ svāhā tvaṃ svadhā tvaṃ hi vaṣaṭkāraḥ svarātmikā |
sudhā tvamakṣare nitye tridhā mātrātmikā sthitā ||2||
English MeaningBrahmā said: You are Svāhā and Svadhā; you are the Vaṣaṭ call and the essence of sacred sound. You are the immortal nectar abiding eternally within the imperishable Oṃ as its three measures.
हिन्दी भावार्थब्रह्माजी बोले—देवि! तुम ही स्वाहा, स्वधा और वषट्कार हो; स्वर भी तुम्हारा ही स्वरूप हैं। तुम ही अमृतस्वरूपा हो और नित्य अक्षर प्रणव में अकार, उकार तथा मकार—इन तीन मात्राओं के रूप में स्थित हो।
श्लोक ३
अर्धमात्रास्थिता नित्या यानुच्चार्या विशेषतः ।
त्वमेव संध्या सावित्री त्वं देवि जननी परा ॥३॥
ardhamātrāsthitā nityā yānuccāryā viśeṣataḥ |
tvameva saṃdhyā sāvitrī tvaṃ devi jananī parā ||3||
English MeaningYou eternally abide as the subtle half-measure that cannot be distinctly pronounced. You alone are Sandhyā and Sāvitrī; O Goddess, you are the Supreme Mother.
हिन्दी भावार्थजो विशेष रूप से उच्चारित नहीं की जा सकती, उस नित्य अर्धमात्रा में भी तुम ही स्थित हो। तुम ही संध्या और सावित्री हो; हे देवि! तुम ही परम जननी हो।
श्लोक ४
त्वयैतद्धार्यते विश्वं त्वयैतत्सृज्यते जगत् ।
त्वयैतत्पाल्यते देवि त्वमत्स्यन्ते च सर्वदा ॥४॥
tvayaitaddhāryate viśvaṃ tvayaitatsṛjyate jagat |
tvayaitatpālyate devi tvamatsyante ca sarvadā ||4||
English MeaningBy you this universe is upheld; by you this world is created. By you it is protected, O Goddess, and at the end you ever consume it into yourself.
हिन्दी भावार्थदेवि! तुम ही इस विश्व को धारण करती हो, तुमसे ही जगत् की सृष्टि होती है और तुम ही इसका पालन करती हो। अन्तकाल में तुम ही सदा इसे अपने भीतर समेट लेती हो।
श्लोक ५
विसृष्टौ सृष्टिरूपा त्वं स्थितिरूपा च पालने ।
तथा संहृतिरूपान्ते जगतोऽस्य जगन्मये ॥५॥
visṛṣṭau sṛṣṭirūpā tvaṃ sthitirūpā ca pālane |
tathā saṃhṛtirūpānte jagato’sya jaganmaye ||5||
English MeaningAt creation you are the form of creation; during preservation you are the form of stability. At the end of this world you become the form of dissolution, O all-pervading Mother.
हिन्दी भावार्थहे जगन्मयी! सृष्टि के समय तुम सृष्टिरूपा, पालन के समय स्थितिरूपा और इस जगत् के अन्त में संहाररूपा होती हो।
श्लोक ६
महाविद्या महामाया महामेधा महास्मृतिः ।
महामोहा च भवती महादेवी महासुरी ॥६॥
mahāvidyā mahāmāyā mahāmedhā mahāsmṛtiḥ |
mahāmohā ca bhavatī mahādevī mahāsurī ||6||
English MeaningYou are the supreme knowledge, the great illusion, the highest intelligence and the universal memory. You are the great delusion, the Great Goddess and the mighty divine power.
हिन्दी भावार्थतुम ही महाविद्या, महामाया, महामेधा और महास्मृति हो। तुम ही महामोहा, महादेवी और महासुरी हो।
श्लोक ७
प्रकृतिस्त्वं च सर्वस्य गुणत्रयविभाविनी ।
कालरात्रिर्महारात्रिर्मोहरात्रिश्च दारुणा ॥७॥
prakṛtistvaṃ ca sarvasya guṇatrayavibhāvinī |
kālarātrirmahārātrirmoharātriśca dāruṇā ||7||
English MeaningYou are the primal nature of all and the manifester of the three guṇas. You are the formidable Kālarātri, Mahārātri and Moharātri.
हिन्दी भावार्थतुम ही सबकी मूल प्रकृति और तीनों गुणों को प्रकट करने वाली हो। भयंकर कालरात्रि, महारात्रि और मोहरात्रि भी तुम ही हो।
श्लोक ८
त्वं श्रीस्त्वमीश्वरी त्वं ह्रीस्त्वं बुद्धिर्बोधलक्षणा ।
लज्जा पुष्टिस्तथा तुष्टिस्त्वं शान्तिः क्षान्तिरेव च ॥८॥
tvaṃ śrīstvamīśvarī tvaṃ hrīstvaṃ buddhirbodhalakṣaṇā |
lajjā puṣṭistathā tuṣṭistvaṃ śāntiḥ kṣāntireva ca ||8||
English MeaningYou are prosperity, sovereignty and sacred modesty; you are intelligence whose nature is awakening. You are modesty, nourishment, contentment, peace and forbearance.
हिन्दी भावार्थतुम ही श्री, ईश्वरी और ह्री हो; तुम ही बोधस्वरूप बुद्धि हो। लज्जा, पुष्टि, तुष्टि, शान्ति और क्षमा भी तुम ही हो।
श्लोक ९
खड्गिनी शूलिनी घोरा गदिनी चक्रिणी तथा ।
शङ्खिनी चापिनी बाणभुशुण्डीपरिघायुधा ॥९॥
khaḍginī śūlinī ghorā gadinī cakriṇī tathā |
śaṅkhinī cāpinī bāṇabhuśuṇḍīparighāyudhā ||9||
English MeaningYou bear the sword and trident and assume a terrible form; you wield the mace and discus. You carry the conch, bow, arrows, bhuśuṇḍī and iron club as your weapons.
हिन्दी भावार्थतुम खड्ग और शूल धारण करने वाली घोररूपा हो तथा गदा और चक्र धारण करती हो। शंख, धनुष, बाण, भुशुण्डी और परिघ भी तुम्हारे आयुध हैं।
श्लोक १०
सौम्या सौम्यतराशेषसौम्येभ्यस्त्वतिसुन्दरी ।
परापराणां परमा त्वमेव परमेश्वरी ॥१०॥
saumyā saumyatarāśeṣasaumyebhyastvatisundarī |
parāparāṇāṃ paramā tvameva parameśvarī ||10||
English MeaningYou are gentle, gentler than all that is gentle, and surpassingly beautiful. Beyond both the manifest and the unmanifest, you alone are the Supreme Goddess.
हिन्दी भावार्थतुम सौम्य हो, समस्त सौम्य वस्तुओं से भी अधिक सौम्य और अत्यन्त सुन्दरी हो। पर और अपर—दोनों से परे परम तत्त्व और परमेश्वरी तुम ही हो।
श्लोक ११
यच्च किञ्चित्क्वचिद्वस्तु सदसद्वाखिलात्मिके ।
तस्य सर्वस्य या शक्तिः सा त्वं किं स्तूयसे तदा ॥११॥
yacca kiñcitkvacidvastu sadasadvākhilātmike |
tasya sarvasya yā śaktiḥ sā tvaṃ kiṃ stūyase tadā ||11||
English MeaningO soul of everything, whatever exists anywhere—whether manifest or unmanifest—and whatever power it possesses, that power is you. How, then, can you be adequately praised?
हिन्दी भावार्थहे अखिलात्मिके! संसार में जहाँ कहीं सत् अथवा असत् रूप जो कुछ भी है, उसकी समस्त शक्ति तुम ही हो। ऐसी अवस्था में तुम्हारी पूर्ण स्तुति किस प्रकार की जा सकती है?
श्लोक १२
यया त्वया जगत्स्रष्टा जगत्पात्यत्ति यो जगत् ।
सोऽपि निद्रावशं नीतः कस्त्वां स्तोतुमिहेश्वरः ॥१२॥
yayā tvayā jagatsraṣṭā jagatpātyatti yo jagat |
so’pi nidrāvaśaṃ nītaḥ kastvāṃ stotumiheśvaraḥ ||12||
English MeaningEven he who creates, preserves and consumes the world has been brought under the power of sleep by you. Who in this world, then, is capable of praising you?
हिन्दी भावार्थजो इस जगत् की सृष्टि, पालन और संहार करते हैं, वे भगवान् भी तुम्हारे द्वारा निद्रा के अधीन कर दिए गए हैं। तब इस संसार में तुम्हारी स्तुति करने में कौन समर्थ हो सकता है?
श्लोक १३
विष्णुः शरीरग्रहणमहमीशान एव च ।
कारितास्ते यतोऽतस्त्वां कः स्तोतुं शक्तिमान् भवेत् ॥१३॥
viṣṇuḥ śarīragrahaṇamahamīśāna eva ca |
kāritāste yato’tastvāṃ kaḥ stotuṃ śaktimān bhavet ||13||
English MeaningSince you have caused Viṣṇu, me, and Īśāna himself to assume embodied forms, who could possess the power to praise you?
हिन्दी भावार्थतुमने ही भगवान् विष्णु, मुझ ब्रह्मा और ईशान शिव को शरीर धारण कराया है; अतः तुम्हारी स्तुति करने की शक्ति किसमें हो सकती है?
श्लोक १४
सा त्वमित्थं प्रभावैः स्वैरुदारैर्देवि संस्तुता ।
मोहयैतौ दुराधर्षावसुरौ मधुकैटभौ ॥१४॥
sā tvamitthaṃ prabhāvaiḥ svairudārairdevi saṃstutā |
mohayaitau durādharṣāvasurau madhukaiṭabhau ||14||
English MeaningO Goddess, thus praised through your own sublime powers, cast these two invincible demons, Madhu and Kaiṭabha, into delusion.
हिन्दी भावार्थहे देवि! अपने ही उदार प्रभावों से इस प्रकार स्तुत होकर इन दोनों दुर्धर्ष असुरों—मधु और कैटभ—को मोह में डाल दीजिए।
श्लोक १५
प्रबोधं च जगत्स्वामी नीयतामच्युतो लघु ।
बोधश्च क्रियतामस्य हन्तुमेतौ महासुरौ ॥१५॥
prabodhaṃ ca jagatsvāmī nīyatāmacyuto laghu |
bodhaśca kriyatāmasya hantumetau mahāsurau ||15||
English MeaningMay Acyuta, the Lord of the universe, be awakened quickly, and may his understanding be directed toward slaying these two mighty demons.
हिन्दी भावार्थजगत् के स्वामी अच्युत भगवान् विष्णु को शीघ्र जगा दीजिए और इन दोनों महादैत्यों का वध करने की बुद्धि उनमें उत्पन्न कीजिए।
